Two good pals of mine dropped $60 each for fake tickets. Which means that scalpers are out to screw you, because they know you’re lazy and didn’t buy a ticket in time, but you’re willing to tag along with your pals to see if tickets can be had out front. 1: Scalpers: Thanks to M.I.A., who discovered/championed them, and their strong second album, Die Antwoord are now officially popular. Here are the nine things you can expect from Die Antwoord’s live gig, which is sweeping North America now (see their itinerary here). If there’s one word to sum up the entire experience, it’s “ridiculous.” Just utterly, totally… ridiculous. I was ready for the full Die Antwoord experience, and I got it Saturday night in New York City. Also, a sit-down interview with them last fall revealed that they’re smart, funny and a pleasure to hang around with. But thanks to their new album, Tension, and its freakishly catchy songs and frighteningly gross music videos, I saw rappers Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja, and their mixmaster DJ Hi-Tek, in an all new light. Sure, I’d seen Die Antwoord in the flesh once before, albeit briefly as I walked from one end of the Indio Polo Grounds to the other during Coachella a few years back. 16.All it took was one look at South African rap-rave outfit Die Antwoord’s recent performance on Letterman and I was sold: I must see this band live… again. Mount Ninja and da Nice Time Kid drops Sept. “Banana Brain” has romance, sex appeal, and stays true to an aesthetic so strong, Die Antwoord’s had to call out the imitators for jockin’ it. “Stay with me tonight/’cuz I’m having the best time of my life,” Yolandi croons throughout the rollercoaster ride of her trip. Beneath his tough exterior hides a nurturing influence who helps transform Yolandi after the banana brain takes hold. In Die Antwoord’s latest offering, Ninja co-stars as a version of himself outfitted with prosthetic legs and a penchant for gunfire. They’re not the only ones getting dosed, though.Ĭreated by Yolandi and Ninja, the latter of whom also helped with directing, “Banana Brain” is the type of festival banger perfectly at home alongside Die Antwoord’s greatest hits, including its output of cinematic videos. The video starts off with a childlike Yolandi pouring her parents tea, along with a little something extra. The iconoclastic South African rap-rave group added some fuel to their fire with the release of “Banana Brain,” a nearly seven-minute journey of what very well may be Yolandi’s origin story. Die Antwoord is set to release its latest album in mere weeks before heading out on a tour of the U.S.
